Technological Innovation and Economic Growth in New Zealand: 1918 to “Think Big”
The publication in 1918 of the first volume of the New Zealand Journal of Science and Technology heralded much of New Zealand’s technological development in the sixty years leading to “Think Big” in the 1980s. Scientist Alan Wylde traces the development of these technologies, showing how New Zealand engineers and scientists provided locally relevant solutions to major technological challenges. He points out that technologists and economic historians have always instinctively understood that technological innovation is the essential component of economic growth.
